FACE TO FACE is the latest piece in Brian Eno's exploration of random patterns and the possibilities of combination to produce unexpected and unusual art works.
The work started life with a small group of photographs of real faces. Eighteen people who actually exist were each captured on a single still photograph. Using special software, they morph slowly from one real face to another, a pixel-by-pixel process of change. This generates a long chain of ’new humans’ in between each real one. These are people who have never actually existed, intermediate humans, thirty of them every second. In this version, 36,000 new faces will have been born.
FACE TO FACE is a special commission for Living Canvas from IPUT Real Estate.
Brian Eno
Brian Eno – musician, producer, visual artist and activist first came to international prominence in the early seventies as a founding member of Roxy Music. His work as producer includes albums with Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, while his long list of collaborations includes recordings with David Bowie, John Cale, David Byrne, Grace Jones and, most recently with his brother, Roger, on Mixing Colours. Brian Eno’s visual experiments with light and video continue to parallel his musical career, with exhibitions and installations all over the globe. To date he has released over forty albums of his own music and exhibited extensively, from the Venice Biennale to Ritan Park in Beijing. In April 2021, he launched EarthPercent, which raises money from the music industry for some of the most impactful environmental charities working on the climate emergency. His most recent album, ‘Film Music 1976 – 2020’ was released in November 2020.
