The Circular Lane of the Grand Canal extends from Rialto in the west to the Docklands in the east.
Conceived both as commercial and recreational infrastructure, The Grand Canal defines the boundary of the south inner city, running through a diversity of Dublin localities, from council housing to wildflower meadows, corporate headquarters to pop-up skate parks. This immersive experimental documentary uses the canal itself as a form of lens, to refract and literally reflect these wandering strands of urban life that have inspired so much art and literature. Originally commissioned by Waterways Ireland for Culture Night.

Luke McManus is an award-winning documentary maker who has worked on five continents making films for NBC, Channel 4, ITV, RTÉ, TV3, Virgin Media Television and TG4, winning three IFTAs, a Celtic Media Award, the Radharc Prize and an EBU Connect Award in the process. He has also directed drama and commercials, and is a producer. A recent production credit is the acclaimed feature documentary The Lonely Battle Of Thomas Reid, which premiered in the Main Competition at IDFA.
