First ever Irish presence at world famous MIPIM Conference in France will seek to attract foreign investment in Irish property and development market.

Over €18 billion in private investment required each year to support housing and real estate development in Ireland.

Irish presence is in association with the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) and supported by Ardstone, Bank of Ireland, IPUT Real Estate and Kennedy Wilson.

Senior figures from Irish and international investment houses and from the Irish property sector will directly make the case for international investment in the Irish property and commercial real estate markets at the European Real Estate Investment Conference (MIPIM) next month in Cannes. Ireland will require over €18 billion annually in investment capital from the private sector to meet the existing and future housing needs of its population and to achieve the ambitious housing targets set out in the Programme for Government.  International investment is an important means to ensure the funding required.

This event is a key opportunity to secure such funding, and this will be the first time that the case for international investment in the Irish property and real estate markets will be put directly to the influential delegates attending the event.

Irish involvement will be through the inaugural Irish Real Estate Investment Pavilion which will run on Wednesday 12th March next.  The Pavilion is organised in association with the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) and supported by four key sponsors who are all key stakeholders in the Irish real estate market: Ardstone, Bank of Ireland, IPUT Real Estate and Kennedy Wilson.  (see irelandatmipim.com)

Already a number of Sovereign Wealth Funds, International Institutional Investors and global Insurance and Pension Fund Managers have signed up to attend and listen to the case for investing in Ireland.

The MIPIM Conference is widely recognised as one of the most important international conferences for investors in property.  It takes place each year in Cannes and attracts up to 20,000 delegates.  At next month’s event, delegates will include senior executives from the largest international investment houses and pension funds. Speakers will include senior executives from global investment houses as well as Government Ministers from around the world, the Mayors of major cities like London, Rome, Madrid and Athens and senior department officials dealing with housing from across Europe.

Mario Draghi, former President of the ECB and author of the Draghi report on the Future of European Competitiveness, will open the MIPIM Conference with a keynote address on Tuesday 11th March 2025.

It is estimated that Ireland will require more than €18 billion a year in investment capital from the private sector to meet the housing targets set out in the Programme for Government. Additional, significant capital is required each year to fund the retrofitting and repurposing of existing commercial real estate to meet the State’s climate targets, and to deliver the new office development needed to support Foreign Direct Investment and growing Irish companies.

The intention of the organisers is to clearly demonstrate to international investors and stakeholders, that Ireland is a compelling jurisdiction for investment and is open to private finance to help support the State’s growing requirements across housing and sustainable development.

Speakers at sessions at the Pavilion which will run on the 12th of March include:

  • Nick Ashmore – Director of the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund
  • John O’Driscoll – Global Co-Head of Real Estate at AXA Investment Managers
  • Iain Cahoon – MD GIC European Real Estate
  • Martin Towns – Deputy Head of Global Real Estate M&G
  • Sander van Riel – Head of Europe CBRE Investment Managers
  • Michael Stanley – CEO of Cairn Plc

A spokesperson for the organisers of the Irish Real Estate Investment Pavilion said;

MIPIM is one of the most significant events for real estate finance professionals in the world and our presence will help to ensure that global investors understand the scale of the ambition and opportunity in Ireland.

MIPIM offers a unique opportunity for representatives from Ireland to speak directly to the key decision makers across European real estate and our participation will help attract the capital required to sustainably support the delivery of new homes, workplaces and infrastructure in the decade ahead.
